Lightroom 4 photo book creation

Adobe has just released the fourth version of Lightroom today, which brings a number of improvements but also a big price cut. Lightroom 4 can be bought for $149 new or $79 as an upgrade. That’s a far cry from the $299 (and $99 upgrade) demanded for previous versions. We’re sure that recent price cuts to Apple’s competing Aperture software played a large part in Adobe’s decision to lower the entry price to its own photo management and editing software.

We’ve been trying out Lightroom 4 since it was released as a beta in January and not much has changed in terms of features since then. The biggest change in Lightroom 4 is the new highlight and shadow recovery technology (replacing the previous fill light and recovery controls) that allows users to bring out even more detail from dark shadows and bright highlights.

Photoshop CS6 content-aware move tool

In the run up to the release of Photoshop CS6, Adobe has been showing off some of the new features we should be expecting in the latest version of the popular photo editing application. Previous videos from Adobe showed off the updated user interface, which has borrowed some of its dark looks from Lightroom, and the new content-aware fill tool that was first introduced in CS5 but now updated to allow you to select the source for the fill.

Well the latest feature, called content-aware move, in Adobe’s tool belt looks even more amazing. The new feature allows you to select objects in your photographs and move them around; i.e. you can make a rough selection of an object or person in your photo then select where you want to move it, Photoshop will cut it from the frame, try to fill in the empty space and then move it to the new location. The new content-aware move feature looks scarily simple but you can have a look for yourself in the video below.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich currently ships without support for Adobe Flash. Although a ‘Flash-less’ future is in the horizon, since Adobe has declared that it will stop developing Flash for mobile devices, it has been officially confirmed that Adobe will provide a final Android 4.0 ICS Flash release before the end of 2011.

Apple has long declared its discontent with Flash and all iOS devices don’t currently offer support for the format. Google, on the other hand, has been touting that Android offers the “full web experience” since support for Flash had been continuously available on the platform since Android 2.2 arrived on the Nexus One. It’s ironic then that the latest Nexus, won’t support Flash, for a while.

Nevertheless, the Flash support argument has become much less relevant nowadays, since technologies such as HTML5 have been gaining popularity and adoption in mobile platforms.

Adobe Photoshop Touch and five other Touch Apps now available for Android

Adobe Touch Apps

Adobe has just released its Touch Apps suite for Android tablets, made of five creative apps each priced at $9.99 and available on the Android Market. There is an Android 3.1 Honeycomb or higher requirement, while Adobe points out that you’ll need at least a 8.9-inch 1280×800 tablet to get the most out the applications. As the name implies, they are all touch optimized applications, but also integrate with Adobe Creative Cloud. You can open Photoshop or other Adobe desktop application files saved in the cloud, work with them on your tablet and then save them back to the cloud to continue working on a desktop or other device.

King of the pack is of course Adobe Photoshop Touch. You can get your images from social networking sites such as Facebook, use locally saved images or snap live from your tablet’s camera. The app includes layer support, various adjustments and filters, and of course you can share your results back to Facebook.

Adobe has just made available, for download, Release Candidates (RCs) for Adobe Lightroom and Camera Raw with RAW support for a number of new cameras. If you have one of the latest digital cameras from Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, Fuji or Phase One, and have been itching for RAW support from Adobe, this latest update should cover you.

The RCs also bring lens profile support for an additional 26 lenses from the likes of Canon, Hasselblad, Nikon, Sony, Pentax and Sigma including the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 L USM. The updates also include a number of bug fixes and improvements.
