Ghibli museum - Laputa: Castle in the Sky robot

It’s become a yearly tradition in Japan for Hayao Miyazaki’s and Studio Ghibli’s 1986 anime film Laputa: Castle in the Sky to air around this time of year on TV. On December 9, the amazing anime film was broadcasted for the thirteenth time since first airing in 1988.

Another tradition is for viewers to join the two main characters, Pazu and Sheeta, in shouting “Balse!” (the spell of destruction), at the climax of the movie over social networking sites. Well, this year viewers had taken to Twitter in droves and broke the social networking site’s all time record with 25,088 for tweets per second while the movie was broadcasted from NTV. Even rival broadcaster NHK joined the action with a tweet from its official PR account.

Tweephone is the analog lover’s Twitter client

Tweephone rotary phone Twitter client

It’s one of those concepts that had to be created, the marriage of an analogue rotary phone with a tweeter client. Ladies and gentlemen we present to you the Tweephone. The brainchild of UP Digital Bureau and the creation of Unteleported tech agency. Running on an Arduino platform, it translates dial turns to characters. You only have to pick-up the handset and go through the arduous, but ultimately rewarding, task of dialing each letter of your allotted 140-character limit. For example to get an ‘a’ you would have to dial ‘2’ once, and to get an ‘f’ you need to dial ‘3’ three times. The Tweephone displays tweets, as you ‘spin them’ on a very fashionable alphanumeric liquid crystal display. To send the tweet you just hang-up the phone.

You can find a lovely video of the Tweephone after the break. Oh and could someone, please, please send us a tweet using the Tweephone!

Nook Color and leather cover Stuff-Review giveaway

We’ve decided it’s about time for another giveaway and what would be a better gift for a tech (and book) loving Stuff-Review follower than Barnes & Noble’s e-Reader/tablet, the Nook Color.

We’ve covered the NC extensively in our original review, and our overall opinion was quite positive. You can also check how it holds up to the one year younger Kindle Fire. We’re giving away our trusted review unit, running the official version 1.3, together with a B&N leather cover to protect your loot and a SanDisk 4GB microSD card to store all your extra media.

The competition is a simple tweet/retweet and follow until we reach 2,000 followers. To win, simply retweet or tweet about this competition (including @stuffreview and of course the link to the competition in your tweet) and follow us on Twitter. We will pick a winner as soon as we reach 2,000 followers and notify the lucky one, both on this page, and via Twitter.

Full rules can be found after the break.
