Sony Xperia S Android handset gets UK pricing and March 5 release date

Sony Xperia S camera landscape

Sony announced its latest Xperia S Android handset at CES this week and we now have UK pricing and availability. The Xperia S (a.k.a. Nozomi) will be released on March 5th in the UK for £468 ($719 and €560) for the 32GB version, at least according to mobile device online retailer Clove.

The Xperia S has a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 gap-less optically laminated display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a impressive 12-megapixel Exmor back-lit sensor rear camera.

It will be sold in both white and black, though initially the white Xperia S will be a Phones4U UK exclusive. The Xperia S includes NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI, together with GPS and GLONASS navigation support. There is no external microSD card slot — so it would probably mean no mass storage support — and it will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sony however promised that it will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of the year. Did we mentioned it’s also PlayStation certified.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus in box on UK launch

It’s the 17th of November and that means the official release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first device to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. As expected, the phone has launched in the UK first, unfortunately the release is not as far-reaching as we would have hoped, as Phones4U managed to get a few days of exclusivity. The Galaxy Nexus has been on sale from the UK retailer since 8am this morning, and you can grab one with a new contract or unlocked for £530. Phones4U has been celebrating the launch by offering, what else, ice cream sandwiches.

The Galaxy Nexus will be arriving directly from three UK mobile carriers, O2, Three and Vodafone, in the coming days. Those who would rather get their phone sim-free from an online retailer, should also be treated to some frozen dessert next week as well.

Just a reminder for anyone that hasn’t been paying attention, that the Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch 720p Super AMOLED (PenTile) display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus event

Samsung has officially confirmed, at its Galaxy Note event in London, that the Android 4.0 bearing Galaxy Nexus will be available in the UK and the rest of Europe come Thursday November 17.

Amazon UK already has the Galaxy Nexus up for pre-order for £549 without a commitment, and as we’ve found in these cases, it’s good to get ahead in line. As far as UK carriers go the Galaxy Nexus is expected to be available on Vodafone, O2 and Three, but you might want to check directly with them for availability.

Note that in the U.S., Verizon has already has confirmed that it will carry the smartphone and has put up a registration page, where you can ask to be notified when the Galaxy Nexus becomes available. Other carriers have yet confirm availability.

HP Touchpad line terminated fire sale

With HP dropping the price all the way down to $99 for the 16GB unit, the Touchpad has pretty much sold out wherever it was on sale in the US, giving WebOS a few last minutes in the spotlight. In fact the now discontinued tablet has become a bestselling item on Amazon US.

Well now the UK is set to join in the picking. A tweet from Dixons head of media relations Mark Webb has announced that the HP Touchpad will go on sale later today for £89 ($146) and £115 ($189) for the 16GB and 32GB versions. We’re also hearing that this will actually be the UK’s official sales price for the tablet and that Amazon UK will also soon be dropping prices to match.

We’ll try and let you know as soon as the sale prices hit, but you might also want to keep an eye on the links below as these things tend to sell out fast.

UPDATE: The HP Touchpad is now on sale at Dixons.co.uk for £89 (16GB) and £115 (32GB). Link above, images after the break.

UPDATE 2: The Touchpad sold out quickly at Dixons online, you can get it at Currys as reserve and collect at your local store.
