Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone in white front and back

Choosing the right colors and producing the polycarbonate body for its Lumia smartphones has been quite a journey for Nokia. The Lumia 800 was initially launched last October in the now familiar cyan, magenta and black hues and as promised (and not to be outdone by Samsung), Nokia has just announced the release of the all white version, first seen on the Nokia Lumia N9.

Nokia Lumia 800 blue

Nokia is promising to finally end your Lumia 800 battery blues with a second software update. Ever since the Nokia Lumia 800 was released, the device has been plagued with a variety of battery issues. Nokia traced the problem to a software bug and released an update last December but battery life problems remained. If it’s any consolation, the Lumia 800 is not the only device to have faced battery problems, iPhone 4S users had a bone to pick with their devices.

The update has already started rolling out and we are hopping it will finally crush the remaining battery bugs. The update is also promising Wi-Fi connectivity enhancements. It will be a rolling update over the next two weeks, so don’t worry if you don’t get it immediately.

HTC Titan with Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango"

Microsoft decided to end any speculation and just announced that Windows Phone 7.5, code-name Mango, will be rolling out to existing Windows Phone 7 handsets in one or two weeks. Obviously not every country, manufacturer and carrier will be getting the update as the same time. Microsoft will be keeping us up to date on the roll-out, at “Where’s my phone update“.

In order to get the update be sure you have the latest version of the Zune software for Windows PCs and Windows Phone 7 Connector for Macs.

Microsoft’s Eric Hautala is also warning users:

HTC Titan on-screen keypad

HTC has made a titanic, but expected, announcement; its first pair of WP7.5 “Mango” smartphones. The first and biggest phone is the appropriately named HTC Titan (a.k.a. HTC Eternity). With a 4.7-inch Super-LCD screen (800 x 480) this is HTC biggest phone yet and actually the largest-screened Windows Phone ever — it is larger than the HTC Sensation but lacks the 960×540 resolution, probably because WP7.5 will still have a maximum resolution limit of 800×480.

Obviously, the bigger news here is Microsoft’s updated operating system. With over 500 claimed new features, which will put Microsoft back in the catching-up game to Android and iOS. The Titan however is no slouch with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. We doubt that the 1600mAh battery will be enough to power this beast — but maybe HTC will follow-up with a ‘Special Edition‘ later, we’re being ironic of-course. The phone will weight 160g (5.6 oz) and the measurements, which you can see beautifully displayed in the image gallery after the break, are 131.5 x 70.7 x 9.9mm (5.18 x 2.78 x 0.39 inches).

HTC Eternity and HTC Omega with WP7 Mango
You may be aware that the IFA trade show is taking place in Berlin right now, and HTC has an event going on today. Well detailed specs of two new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango phones have leaked which are certain to make their presence fully know soon.

First is the HTC Eternity on the right, with a 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD screen and single-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor. The phone has an 8-megapixel back and 1.3-megapixel front-facing cameras, dual LED flash and 720p movie mode. The handset has ample 16GB internal storage and a 1,650mAh battery.

The smaller 3.8-inch HTC Omega will run on the same 1.5GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and support for 14.2Mbps HSDPA networks.

Zune software update 4.8

This one had slipped between the cracks, Microsoft has released an update of its Zune software which is used to sync and update Windows Phone devices and the Zune players. Update 4.8 includes a number of under-the-hood improvements and tweaks of the software, but most importantly, as Microsoft states on its official Windows Phone blog, the latest Zune software was released to pave the way for the WP7 Mango update. As we understand it, running Zune 4.8 is essential so that your Windows Phone can be updated to Mango from your PC when it is released.

To update, go to “Settings” > “Software” > “General” and click “Check Updates” in the Zune software, or hit the download link below. Mango is expected to bring Windows Phone to more languages and countries and Zune 4.8 has been updated accordingly with support for 22 display languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. No support for Mac OS yet however, Zune Software remains Windows only.
