Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you would know that Apple’s annual developer conference WWDC 2012 is due next week. There have been a ton of rumors including new thinner and retina display MacBook Pros, Ivy Bridge donned MacBook Airs, refreshed iMacs and even, finally, a refreshed Mac Pro desktop, but make no mistake WWDC is all about software.

The event will certainly see the official unveiling of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple’s desktop/laptop operating system. Last year we got OS X Lion at WWDC 2011 and we wouldn’t expect anything less this year. Many of the features of OS X Mountain Lion are already known thanks to a number of developer releases. You can expect an even more iOS’ified experience with the new Notification Center, iMessaging, Game Center and Airplay Mirroring.

Tim Cook

AllThingsD is reporting that Apple will hold a big media event on the 4th of October to announce nothing less but the next version of the iPhone. Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, is said to take the stage and present the iPhone 5 to the world. This certainly confirms the timing we’ve reported previously for the launch. Other rumors suggest that Apple might not have just one, but two smartphones in the pipeline; the second being a souped up version of the current iPhone, named the iPhone 4S.

Now what will the iPhone 5 look like? Well, everything is pointing out to a larger, thinner device, hosting a larger display, measuring 4-inches.

So, start the clock. Just two weeks left to go.

Internal memo: iPhone 5 launch on Best Buy first week of October

BGR has received and internal document from a source claiming to be a Best Buy insider detailing preparatory work for an iPhone 5 launch in the first week of October. The document also mentions the iPhone 5 launching for Sprint, though if you ask anyone from Sprint we’re sure they would not want to talk about it. The “leaked” document also suggests a pre-order period, which would mean that the iPhone 5 will be announced very shortly, although Apple hasn’t yet sent invites for the usual launch event.

Sprint advises employees not to discuss the iPhone 5

Sprint notice to employees about upcoming iPhone 5

The first rule of selling the iPhone 5, is not to discuss selling the iPhone 5. Sprint has advised its dealers not to discuss potential future availability of Apple’s next iPhone on Sprint. This has come following a WSJ publication stating that Sprint would be getting the iPhone 5 in mid-October. AT&T and Verizon will also begin offering the iPhone 5 in mid-October and Sprint is said to begin carrying the iPhone 4 as well, starting from that time.

Verizon began selling the iPhone in February this year and Apple loving Sprint customers have been getting mixed signals as to if and when Sprint will begin offering the iPhone. The recent internal memo to employees doesn’t give much information except that employees shouldn’t discuss any iPhone availability on Sprint but can acknowledge seeing the news reports. However the memo also doesn’t instruct employees to deny any of rumors; is non-denial a confirmation? Well October is not far off

iPhone 5 leaked photo

Time really does fly; why, it seems like yesterday that everyone was raving and speculating about the iPhone 4. Well, it’s actually been over a year now since the iPhone 4 was introduced, and of course speculation for the next Apple smartphone is running feverishly high. Apple has already unveiled iOS 5 and the rumor mill on the iPhone 5 that will join the operating system keeps churning.

It’s not hard to imagine that the iPhone 5 will be thinner, we’re used to Apple making things thinner, and well, with the success of bigger screened phones, it would seem logical that iPhone 5’s display will venture north of the usual 3.5-inches. So today’s leak comes from guigsh on MacRumors forum, who claims to have taken a picture of the iPhone 5 at the office of a French operator yesterday. It certainly matches the dimensions we’ve seen before, but so does an iPhone 4 with a little stretching and squishing in Photoshop. So what do you think?

iPhone 5 mold rendering full

Well with the iPad 2 just beginning to ship, more rumors have started to surface on the next iPhone, the iPhone 5.

While initially it was rumored that the iPhone 5 would have a curved back with a milled aluminum body (like the iPad) and the Apple logo acting as the antenna port, CAD renderings have come up on a Chinese website, iDealsChina, of mold engineering drawings of the iPhone 5 having a body similar to the iPhone 4 but with a larger screen and much thinner bezel.
