iPad mini leak back

Apple’s long-rumored iPhone 5, iPad mini and iOS 6 event is tomorrow and although we’ve seen purported parts of the new smaller iPad, we had yet to see a finished assembled product.

Now a French website has published a number of photos, which could potentially show the iPad mini. As a reminder, the iPad mini has been rumored to feature a smaller 7.85-inch display with a 1024 x 768 (non retina) resolution, similar to the iPad 2’s resolution. The iPad mini would also come with an Apple A5X processor (like the iPad 3) and the new smaller dock connector.

We’ve included one more picture after the break and will let you make your own conclusions.

iOS 6: iCloud with iTunes Match now streams your music directly from the cloud

A cloud illustration with a album covers inside

Out of all the cloud storage music services, Apple’s iCloud is by far our favorite and this is mainly because of iTunes Match. Uploading and syncing even a moderately sized music library is generally a hassle, and I gave up on uploading mine to Google Music half-way, I only keep around 500 songs there.

Instead, with iTunes Match all your music becomes immediately available in iCloud as long as it has been matched to music on Apple’s servers. In addition your cloud copies are available in higher definition 256kbps AAC format irrespective of the quality of your local files and we’ve even showed you how you can easily upgrade all your local music using iTunes Match here.

Our single biggest annoyance with iCloud and iTunes Match has been that in order to listen to your cloud-stored music on an iOS device, i.e. iPad, iPhone etc., the song would first have to fully download to your device and then played. This meant a delay between selecting a track and actually listening to it, and it also filled up your device’s storage with the downloaded files.

Well one of the new features in iOS 6, and one that had generally slipped by, is the ability to now actually stream music directly from iCloud.

With Apple’s developer conference kicking in less than twenty-four hours from now, and with the confirmation that Apple will to unveil iOS 6, a bunch of iOS 6 beta links have just dropped.

Chinese forum WeiPhone has published a full list of links hosted on Apple’s developer resources website pointing to iOS 6 beta .dmg and .zip files for a variety of devices. Obviously the links are not working, but interestingly instead of a ‘url not found’ error the website simply points to an expired session, i.e. this could be the real thing.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you would know that Apple’s annual developer conference WWDC 2012 is due next week. There have been a ton of rumors including new thinner and retina display MacBook Pros, Ivy Bridge donned MacBook Airs, refreshed iMacs and even, finally, a refreshed Mac Pro desktop, but make no mistake WWDC is all about software.

The event will certainly see the official unveiling of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple’s desktop/laptop operating system. Last year we got OS X Lion at WWDC 2011 and we wouldn’t expect anything less this year. Many of the features of OS X Mountain Lion are already known thanks to a number of developer releases. You can expect an even more iOS’ified experience with the new Notification Center, iMessaging, Game Center and Airplay Mirroring.

So you grabbed a new retina-display 3rd generation or 4th generation iPad and you’re now looking for an equally beautiful and functional case to keep your investment safe. For a device as popular as Apple’s tablet, you’d expect there to be infinite choices, and there are.

Today we’ll be looking at one of these cases, the Yoobao executive leather case for the iPad 3 and iPad 4.

You can get the Yoobao for around $30 in the US, £27-29 in the UK and 35-37 euros in the continent, just be sure to get the correct version for you iPad, i.e. look for the iPad 3 case for the new iPad. Bear in mind generally when you’re shopping for a new case to specifically look for one made for the new iPad as it is slightly thicker than the iPad 2.

MacBook Pro front

We’ve been hearing rumors about Apple’s upcoming refresh of its MacBook Pro line for a while now. It’s almost certain that they will feature Intel’s latest 22nm Ivy Bridge processors, but two other long-standing rumors have been that they will have a new thinner Air-like design and high resolution retina displays.

Now according to Bloomberg sources the rumors have been confirmed. Apple is said to be unveiling the new MacBook Pro lineup at the WWDC starting on June 11. The MacBook Pros will have a slim design, retina displays and also feature SSD drives, though they could be coupled with standard magnetic hard drives for larger storage capacity.

The update brings among other things:

Zooey Deschanel in iPhone 4S Siri commercial

Apple marketing campaigns have included dancing figures and loads of product shots with catchy tunes in the background, but have been light on celebrity clout. Well the two latest Siri ads that have just aired have certainly upped the ante, featuring Zooey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson.

Good fits for Apple? We think so. The two Hollywood stars are seen having intimate conversations with their iPhone 4S and the phone’s Siri digital assistant in their own unique relaxed coolness.

Valve Software

Take note as you will be hearing much more of wearable computing in the years to come. Google had just announced early this month its own exciting project to create a pair of self-contained augmented reality glasses, named Project Glass. So now, it would be as good a time as ever for other companies to share their own plans and research on the subject.

Valve Software, best known for the games Half-Life and Portal, has just come out, through a blog post by developer Michael Abrash, that it’s also started doing some R&D on wearable computing. But first a brief intro on Michael, he has been in tech for over thirty years and has worked at Microsoft as the graphics lead for Windows NT, then at Id working on Quake, then working on the Xbox and finally on Intel’s Larrabee GPU architecture. In two words, he is a real heavy weight.

Apple aluminium unibody iMac line

Ever since the introduction of the aluminium unibody iMac line in 2009, Apple’s all-in-one personal computers have remained the same externally. Nevertheless, the series had received annual refreshes with faster processors and graphics units, with the most recent mid-2011 iMacs also receiving Thunderbolt ports.

Well recent rumors suggest that the 2012 iMacs will receive a redesign as well, making them slimmer and lighter than the current models. AppleInsider is claiming that the new iMacs will more closely resemble the footprint of today’s most popular LED televisions.

3rd generation iPad in hand - homescreen

A survey done by ChangeWave Research on the new 3rd generation iPad has revealed some interesting tidbits, though we have to foreword this by saying that the company has polled a mere 200 new iPad owners, which is a pretty small sample if you consider that Apple has sold more than three million new iPads in the initial release weekend.

According to the survey more than four out of five people polled (82% to be exact) have said that they are very satisfied with the new iPad, compared to 74% for the iPad 2. Only 2%, or four people, have said they are somewhat dissatisfied.

Cydia running on 3rd generation iPad - chpwn method

There was much hope that a jailbreak for A5 and A5X devices, that’s the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the 3rd generation iPad, running iOS 5.1 would materialize soon after the new iPad’s release. After all, just a few hours following the official release of the new iPad three different jailbreak methods were demonstrated and confirmed.

Two weeks later and there haven’t been any updates on a public release of a jailbreak yet. Now it would seem that we might still be weeks away from a usable public jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and that’s unfortunate news for new iPad (3) owners itching to install Cydia and 3rd party apps on their retina-touting tablet.

Cuben Space 2 new iPad Retina Wallpaper

The incredible retina display of the 3rd generation iPad deserves some incredible wallpaper and we think we just stumbled on them. This set of seven colorful geometric designs was created by graphic designer Simon C Page specifically for the new iPad. They are each 2,048×2,048 at 264dpi so they work both in portrait and landscape.

We’ve loaded them up on our iPad and they look absolutely awesome, fan and playful with an air of sophistication. The easiest way to get them on your 3rd generation iPad is to click each download link from Safari on the iPad and then press-and-hold to save.
