Olympus OM-D E-M5 MFT digital camera - black - top

Amazon UK now has the newly announced Olympus OM-D E-M5 up for pre-order here. The 12-50mm lens kit goes for £1,150, while you can get the body only for £999 here.

Though British Micro Four Thirds friends will have to shell out more than their counterparts across the pond, Olympus is offering a nice sweetener to the deal. Anyone ordering the Olympus E-M5 in the UK before the 30th of April will get the HLD-6 battery holder and grip for free. The HLD-6 kit contains both the landscape grip and the portrait grip with extra battery holder. Considering that otherwise you would be looking at around £200-250 for the grip only, it’s not such a bad deal.

Fujifilm X-series interchangeable lens mirrorless camera system X-Pro1 front

Undoubtedly Fujifilm has created quite a stir in the digital camera world with its retro looking X-series cameras putting image quality and full manual controls as priorities. The Fujifilm X100 was one of our favorite pieces of tech for 2011, and the company recently announced the X-Pro1 interchangeable camera, improving on already amazing X100.

You can find more information on the X-Pro1 in our initial coverage here, check-out over forty minutes of hands-on videos and have a look at a comparison against other high-end mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras (MILCs).

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus event

Samsung has officially confirmed, at its Galaxy Note event in London, that the Android 4.0 bearing Galaxy Nexus will be available in the UK and the rest of Europe come Thursday November 17.

Amazon UK already has the Galaxy Nexus up for pre-order for £549 without a commitment, and as we’ve found in these cases, it’s good to get ahead in line. As far as UK carriers go the Galaxy Nexus is expected to be available on Vodafone, O2 and Three, but you might want to check directly with them for availability.

Note that in the U.S., Verizon has already has confirmed that it will carry the smartphone and has put up a registration page, where you can ask to be notified when the Galaxy Nexus becomes available. Other carriers have yet confirm availability.

Apple iPhone 4S tops over 1 million pre-orders in first 24 hours

iPhone 4S - HD video recording

Despite the lackluster reception by the tech community, the iPhone 4S has managed to break all previous pre-order records at Apple. The new smartphone has exceeded 1 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours since it went on sale. The record trumps the previous record set by the iPhone 4, which recorded 600,000 pre-orders in a single day. Though bear in mind that the iPhone 4 was carried only by AT&T on release, while the iPhone 4S now has AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint on-board.

The iPhone 4S will be available at Apple stores starting 8:00 a.m. on October 14, but based on previous experience, expect huge lines and stock to run-out quickly. Best to order it online, in our opinion, though this now entails a 1-2 weeks delay. You might want to spend that time constructively by reading on the iPhone 4S’ new features, like Bluetooth 4.0.

Full Apple press release after the break.

Fujifilm FinePix X10 side with lens extended

The X10, Fujifilm’s new high-end point-and-shoot camera, was announced in September with a possible October or November release date and unknown pricing. Well, we now have some more concrete information for you. The X10 will be priced at $600 in the US, with an early November release date — both B&H and Adorama agree on the date and pricing. The price is quite steep if you consider that the Canon S95 and the Panasonic LX5 now retail for around $350-380. Nevertheless the X10 is quite unique as it features an optical viewfinder, 7 blade aperture system, a host of manual controls and shares the X100‘s retro looks and build quality (real world review of the X100 here).

The UK release date is more specific, with Amazon UK listing the X10 to ship on November 11th for £500.

If you are pondering on adding Fuji’s new compact to you camera arsenal, check out this 16 minute video and our initial coverage of the Fujifilm X10.

Apple iPhone 4S

Smart shoppers pre-order early, especially considering the potential demand for Apple’s newest smartphone. Apple has stated that the iPhone 4S will be available for pre-order starting October 7th; and true to its word, you can now pre-order the phone online, either directly from Apple or your carrier of choice.

In the US, Apple’s latest phone will cost you $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB and $399 for the 64GB version, with a two-year contract. To pre-order the iPhone 4S directly from Apple in US head here, and for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

UK nationals can pre-order their sim-free iPhone 4S directly from Apple here, for the tidy sums of £499, £599 and £699 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. Vodafone UK and T-Mobile have also made the iPhone 4S available for pre-order, while you can register your interest for Orange and O2.
